Wanna Change the World? Join the UK Youth Parliament!

Applications are now open to become one of Wirral’s next Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs). If you are aged 11 to 17 and want to make a difference, help change things for young people and speak up about issues that matter, this is your moment.

The UK Youth Parliament is a national programme that gives young people a real voice. It works like the adult UK Parliament, but it is led entirely by young people. As an MYP, you will represent young people in Wirral locally, regionally and nationally, and you will take part in debates, events and campaigns, including a sitting in the House of Commons. MYPs speak for young people, not political parties, and the role lasts for two years.

There are two MYP positions available and two Deputy roles, and anyone aged 11 to 17 who lives in Wirral can apply. You do not need qualifications or experience, just passion and commitment. The role involves collecting views from young people, supporting youth campaigns, attending meetings and events, and helping run the national Make Your Mark vote. The time commitment is around three hours per week, plus some training and national weekend events. You will be supported by Wirral Borough Council with training, travel assistance and access to youth voice opportunities.

Applications are officially open now

UK Youth Parliament Applications open at 9am on Wednesday 19th November 2025.
The closing date is Monday 19th January 2026 at 9pm.

To apply, you need to complete the online form and ask a trusted adult such as a teacher, coach, youth worker or mentor to complete a reference form. This cannot be a family member or someone you live with.

Application links are available online at the Wirral Youth website. Details have also been shared by email.

If you are not voted in this time, you can still join Wirral Youth Voice groups and take part in free opportunities, events and leadership training.

If you need help with your application or want to ask questions, email

We would love to see as many young people as possible apply. This is a powerful opportunity to be heard, gain skills, build confidence and help improve life for young people across Wirral.

What does an MYP do?

As an MYP, you will speak up on issues young people care about and take those views to real decision makers. You’re not standing for a political party. You’re standing for young people themselves.

MYPs get involved in things like:
• Speaking at local events, meetings and youth conferences
• Helping run the national Make Your Mark vote
• Campaigning on issues important to young people
• Going to national gatherings, including a debate in the House of Commons
• Working with councillors, council staff and youth leaders
• Meeting young people across Wirral and collecting their views

It’s a 2-year role, and you’ll receive support, training and travel expenses from Wirral Borough Council.

Time commitment is usually around 3 hours a week, plus some workshops, trips and special events. If you turn 18 before November 2026, you won’t be able to attend the House of Commons sitting, but you can still apply and serve your term.

Why join?

Being an MYP is an amazing chance to:
• Build confidence and leadership skills
• Make real change happen
• Improve life for thousands of young people
• Boost your CV and future education or job applications
• Meet inspiring people and make new friends

You’ll be part of something huge. UKYP works with the British Youth Council and is listened to by MPs, governments, councils and national organisations.

How to apply

If you’re interested, complete this MS Form and ask a trusted adult (like a teacher, coach or youth worker) for a short reference. It can’t be someone you live with.

Good luck, future leaders!

If you care about mental health, transport, cost of living, education, safety or equality, this is your chance to do something about it. Your voice matters.
