Paper + Word Brings Fantasy Magic to Bebington Village
A brand-new fantasy-only bookshop called Paper and Word opened last weekend in Bebington Village — and the launch was a huge success. Crowds of excited fans lined up outside the shop, eager to be among the first to step inside.
Paper and Word is the first bookshop in the UK dedicated entirely to fantasy books. It opened on Church Road on November 15 after a Kickstarter fundraiser collected more than £25,000. The shop sells fantasy books for all ages, from famous writers like J.R.R. Tolkien and Sarah J. Maas to new and independent authors.
The shop also offers lots of book-themed goodies, such as handmade book sleeves, reading journals, luxury chocolates, locally made mugs, and candles inspired by fantasy stories.
The store is inside a 100-year-old building shaped like an open book, and inside looks like a magical library with tall purple bookshelves, rolling ladders, comfy chairs, a glittering gold ceiling, and star-shaped lights.
Owner Abby Munro, who has been running Paper and Word online for seven years for an audience of around 40,000 followers, said opening a real shop is a dream come true. She hopes it becomes a fun and welcoming place for all fantasy lovers.
Paper and Word is the latest addition to Bebington’s growing collection of amazing independent shops and creative hangouts, many of which are popular with young people. Nearby you’ll find Kraken Comics, Bulwark Games, and Snips Video — one of only two video rental stores left in the whole country!
Together, these places are helping make Bebington Village a really exciting destination for fans of books, games, and geek culture.
