New Weekly Comic Between Worlds Launches on ZILLO Tomorrow

Young people across Wirral are about to step into a brand new world of storytelling, friendship, and real-life challenges with the launch of Between Worlds — a new weekly online comic created by ZILLO Young Reporters.

Launching tomorrow on ZILLO, the comic series will release a brand new issue every Friday, bringing readers ongoing stories set inside the fictional Wirral High School.

Created by young reporters from across Wirral, Between Worlds combines bold comic-book storytelling with honest conversations about growing up. The series explores issues affecting young people today including mental health, online life, friendships, relationships, identity, loneliness, bullying, misogyny, stress, family pressures and more.

Each issue will follow an evolving story arc, allowing readers to get to know the characters over time while also offering useful advice, coping strategies, and real lived experiences that may help young people navigate challenges in their own lives.

Meet the Main Cast

Malik

Thoughtful, calm and quietly observant, Malik is often the person others turn to when things feel overwhelming. He notices when people are struggling, even when they try to hide it, and always tries to help his friends see things differently.

Kaitlin

Creative, intelligent and determined, Kaitlin often puts huge pressure on herself to keep going even when she is exhausted. Her story in the first issue explores burnout, stress and the feeling of “running on empty.”

Brennan

The heart of the friendship group, Brennan is funny, loyal and endlessly caring. A brilliant dancer and natural people-person, he often lifts others up with humour, even while dealing with loneliness and vulnerability himself.

Missy

Confident, outspoken and fiercely protective of her friends, Missy is never afraid to challenge unfairness. She often becomes the first person to speak up when something feels wrong.

Jude

Jude keeps much of what he feels hidden behind sarcasm and humour. As the stories unfold, readers will begin to see the pressures he faces and the reasons he sometimes struggles to open up.

Lena

Empathetic and reflective, Lena often acts as the emotional glue of the group. She is thoughtful about the people around her and encourages her friends to look after themselves and each other.

Issue One: Running on Empty

The first issue, Running on Empty, launches tomorrow and focuses on mental wellbeing, burnout and recognising when your emotional “battery” is running low.

Through Kaitlin’s story, readers will explore how stress can quietly build up over time and how small actions like sleep, healthy routines, talking to people and taking breaks can make a real difference.

The comic aims to make difficult conversations feel more approachable through creativity, relatable characters and honest storytelling.

A new issue of Between Worlds will launch every Friday exclusively on ZILLO.
