Stay Safe on Bonfire Night

fireworks

Bonfire Night is a fun time to enjoy fireworks, sparklers, and bonfires with friends and family. But it is important to stay safe so everyone can have a good time.

Fireworks Are Not Toys

Fireworks can look exciting, but they can be dangerous. Never play with fireworks or try to light them yourself.

✅ Watch fireworks from a safe distance.
✅ Listen to adults and event staff.
✅ Go to organised displays if you can.

❌ Do not throw fireworks.
❌ Do not pick up fireworks that have already been lit.
❌ Do not carry fireworks around.

Be Careful Around Bonfires

Bonfires can get very hot and can cause serious burns.

✅ Stay well back from the fire.
✅ Follow any safety barriers.
✅ Wear warm clothes that fit properly.

❌ Do not run near the bonfire.
❌ Do not throw things into the fire.
❌ Do not push or play around near the flames.

Sparklers Can Burn

Sparklers may seem harmless, but they can get hotter than boiling water.

✅ Hold sparklers at arm's length.
✅ Wear gloves if possible.
✅ Put used sparklers in a bucket of water.

❌ Never wave sparklers near other people.
❌ Do not hand them to younger children without adult help.

Stay Safe with Friends

Big crowds can be busy and noisy.

✅ Stay with your friends or family.
✅ Agree on a meeting point in case you get separated.
✅ Make sure your phone is charged if you have one.

If you feel worried, lost, or unsafe, find a trusted adult, event steward, police officer, or security worker.

Look After Your Pets

Fireworks can be scary for animals.

✅ Keep pets indoors if possible.
✅ Close windows and curtains.
✅ Give them a quiet place to relax.

Think About Others

Not everyone enjoys fireworks. Some people, including young children, older people, and people with sensory sensitivities, may find loud noises difficult.

✅ Be respectful of your neighbours.
✅ Clean up any rubbish after celebrations.
✅ Help make Bonfire Night safe and enjoyable for everyone.

If Someone Gets Hurt

Tell an adult straight away. If the injury is serious, call 999 and ask for help.

Remember: Be Bright, Stay Safe!

Bonfire Night should be full of fun memories, not accidents. Watch from a safe distance, stay with people you trust, and enjoy the celebrations safely.

From all of us at Zillo Wirral, have a safe and happy Bonfire Night!
