Zillo Young Reporters were invited by Birkenhead’s fantastic live music venue Future Yard, to witness a grand rock and roll show as part of their New Noise Club on the15th October.

Following each show, reporters Cat, Herb, and Georgie interviewed the brands “The Carnage”, “The Painted Ceilings” and “Gen And The Degenerates” to find out more about them and their music.

Kicking off the afternoon was Future Yards ow New Noise Club band The Carnage

They describe themselves as a “melodic death core band” from Wirral.

“A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away”, the band formed starting from a rugby club as friend, with the love of music being formed in year 7, continuing to stay strong to present day year 11.

They class their band as a place of laughter and hard-work, the group describing themselves as friends, where arguments are sorted out and ground rules are set. Their respect in each other is prevalent and their friendship doesn’t stop at just band practice but also outside too.

One of their favourite moments whilst being in the band was filming Tik Toks after a gig had been cancelled on a Saturday, such as “The Carnages Favourite Riffs” and “Guess Who Our Drummer/ Guitarist is”, one of the videos reaching 13k views.

One of their goals for the future is to create an album and be on Spotify, going on to create some bigger shows. Especially since on the day, it had been their first time being mentioned on a public level, making it a very exciting day for them.

The Carnage were quickly followed by battle of the bands winning group The Painted Ceilings

The trio are a “generic indie band” from Wallasey, hoping to explore more styles and expand bigger.

The band mates were initially just the duo siblings, taking up the roles of a bass and guitarist, with the third member, who was a family friend and a praised drummer, joining later. The band has kept going for a year since September last year.

“I think we are all just pretty good at our own stuff and you know, we got together and we play songs at our level, that’s what a band is.”

They’ve all individually written their own original songs, with hopes at their next gigs they would sing more songs. They target for their gig was to hook the audience with high energy and be able to connect with the people.

Sometimes, they may have spats due to their different ideas, but arguments help them get to greater things. One of their favourite memories is their first gig where “everything went wrong”! There was blood on strings after a popped finger and blisters formed. The “show must go on” as they say, they continued playing, the crowd kept loving it. In the moment, they didn’t even notice it because they were so into their music!

Their next step is to get locally big, play music for enjoyment and let the flow of things take them, to find the right crowds.

Rounding off the afternoon was Gen and The Degenerates.

The band first formed, actually, without Gen. As kids, doing different bits and doing bands, whilst growing up in Preston. They moved to Liverpool, and happened to meet Gen there, in halls. Gen considers herself “to be the final ingredient” that made the band what it is today.

The band members had their own different interests and skills, but Gen “helped things fall into place”, where they’ve got everything where they need them.

Recently, their favourite moment of their band was their final song with Skunk and Nancy of their tour. They see them as a really “awesome” band of the 90s, celebrating the end of the tour with them with a big party! For the band it was a lovely experience on a different level.

Their future goals are world domination! They strive for biggest slots in number one album and etcetera. They plan to do this a step at a time as they describe it as “lofty goal”. They have real belief in the songs that they produce, and they want more people to talk about the issues that they touch upon.

They love when their audience has an enthusiasm and energy to the subjects that they talk about. Gen goes on to describe how the desire to preform is “half the battle”, practicing and desire being a key to be able to have the spirit to influence the audience.
